YUGIOH META PREDICTION (SEPT 2010)

TIER 1

X-SABER
They didn't get hit besides Rescue Cat, that's why they're good. Before Sept format, they're overpowered or we should say overpowered if compared with other deck. X-Sabers are outstanding. Their speed and their power are so much greater than others. In fact, Infernities can be said to be equal power as X-Sabers due to thier ability to spam synchro and push for heavy damage. However, last format proved that X-Sabers > Infernities. Infernities was a hype, they're too inconsistent and tend to draw bad hand. Before Sept, X-Sabers are god tier( due to major X-Sabers topping). This format, they're still very good deck( I believe so). But thier build is going to change, probably replace cat with another Fullhelm Knight, drop 1 Airbellum ( no point to run 2 w/o cat ) for Pashuul, main deck Reborn and Dark Hole...

GLADIATOR BEAST
They always get under the banlist, as expected. Again they're unhit, and due to this reason they're good. Many top tier deck is slowed down by Sept banlist, such as Blackwings, X-Sabers and Infernity. Hence, they can complete better. They're super versatile, super consistent, and have very good control power. They've precious asset - War Chariot and Gyzarus which keep them top tier for every format. They can fight against almost every deck. Even X-Sabers can't do that. GBs are the examples of well-designed card, good yet not broken.

QUICKDRAW
Dandylion unhit, okay. Gain more support, okay. Err... wait... what kind of support? Grow up bulb, a tuner that can revive w/o any cost? No! Tuning, RotA for Synchrons? No! I think it's pretty much very clear...

HERALD
Herald here means Advanced Ritual Art version of Herald. The ability to control the game and negate every opponent's move + special summon lockdown. Just like machina, almost every cards in this deck can search for ritual cards which make this deck very consistent. However, they're easy to side against. GB are thier nightmare...

TIER 1.5

BLACKWING
No point to hit this deck. They are one of the most balanced deck in last format. But still, due to Overwinning in OCG they were hit. With 1 Whirlwind, they lose thier consistency. Besides that, they've lost thier control power due to limitation of Royal Oppression. However, they're still a solid deck and still playable, but not top tier anymore.

MACHINA
Still the same as before. With heavy gone, they can control the game better. In last format, they din do well due to inability to stop OTK and big push... With Heavy Gone, this deck might do better, but not much different.

SCRAP
DO you play this deck before? It's good, versatile and consistent.

DUEL RECORD - HERALD VS GB

Me : Won the dice roll and went 1st, opened with CHARIOT, BESTIARI, MST, BOTTOMLESS, TEST TIGER and PROVING GROUND. Summon BESTIARI, set CHARIOT and BOTTOMLESS and ended.

Opponent : He activated ADVANCED RITUAL ART, sent 2 HAPPY LOVER and 2 MOKEY MOKEY to his grave, summoned HERALD. I activated BOTTOMLESS and he used HERALD's effect to negate my BOTTOMLESS, but I chained my CHARIOT and destroyed his HERALD. He activated DARK FACTORY to get back 2 HAPPY LOVER. Then, he summoned KRISTYA, get back HERALD from his grave, attack over BESTIARI and ended. My LP: 6700

ME : Drew BOOK OF MOON, activated it to flip KRISTYA down. I Activated PROVING GROUND, search for DARIUS, used TEST TIGER to tag out himself and revive BESTIARI, contact fusion for GYZARUS, destroyed KRISTYA and direct attacked, dropped him to 5600 LP, tag out EQUASTE get back chariot and LAQUARI. Ended.

Opponent : He summoned MANJU, get DAWN OF THE HERALD, then he actiavted DAWN OF THE HERALD and offered his MANJU and HAPPY LOVER as tribute to summon HERALD, then removed from play DAWN OF THE HERALD to get back MANJU. Then he drop KRISTIA w/o activated its effect, HERALD and KRISTIA attacked, destroy both of my GB and dropped me to 5800 LP.

ME : Drew PROVING GROUND, Ended.

OPPONENT : He dropped another KRISTIA, it's game.

META DECK ANALYSIS - HERALD OF PERFECTION

Well, we haven't seen a good control deck so far... Now it comes. Herald of Perfection, a ritual monster which act as a wall and negate every opponent's move. Herald of perfection is a great an balanced card as it is a Ritual Monster. No one will think a deck with random normal monster will be good. It's all because of 1 card, Herald of Perfection. Herald of Perfection has poor 1800 ATK, but a wall liked 2800 DEF which is almost unbreakable. Hence, most of the time Herald duelist not going to attack with Herald. But they have another big hitter, Archlord Kristia. Archlord Kristia ia a slightly overpowered boss. Easy summon condition, high ATk, gain advantage upon summon, and can lock your opponent down. Once Herald and Archlord Kristia both hit the field, it's game. Herald alone is not good enough to protect itself as opponent can just special summon something big to run over it, but Kristia special summon lock down ability that turn out into a full lock. Now you can't activate any effect and can't summon big monster... Herald has 2 variants, one utilising Advanced Art of Ritual, one using high monster count. While it has been proven that the 1st variant is better. Turn 1 Herald pretty consistent

MATHEMATIC - PROBABILITY IN YUGIOH

Now we shall see what ban list can do.

Assume your deck size is 40. If you run 3 copies of X card, what's the probability that you draw at least 1 copy in your opening turn?

Let probabilty of drawing at least 1 copy = p(A),

Case 1: drawing 1 copy
P(A1) = (3C1)(37C5)/(40C6)=0.3407

Case 2: drawing 2 copies
P(A2) = (3C2)(37C4)/(40C6) =0.0516

Case 3: drawing 3 copies
P(A3) = (3C3)(37C3)/(40C6) =0.0020

Hence P(A) = 0.3407 + 0.0516 + 0.0020 = 0.3943(40%)

If you run 2 copies of X card,
Let probability of drawing at least 1 copy = P(B)

Case 1: drawing 1 copies
P(B1) = (2C1)(38C5)/(40C6) = 0.2615

Case 2 : drawing 2 copies
P(B2) = (2C2)(38C4)/(40C6) = 0.0192

Hence P(B) = 0.2615 + 0.0192 = 0.2808(28%)

If you run 1 copy of X card,
Let probability of drawing at least 1 copy = P(C)

P(C) = (1C1)(39C5)/(40C6) = 0.15(15%)

Now it's clear that limiting does make difference...

META DECK ANALYSIS - THE GLADIATOR BEAST

I can't remember how long this deck is around. Maybe 3 years or more. It's always one of the great deck choice for every format, simply because it's so versatile. And it can always control over your opponent. Compared to other tier 1 deck, this deck seems to be lack of some speed. However its control power make up for that. A simple War Chariot lock can shut down opponent's play. Or even more, Heraklinos backed-up by a set chariot for complete lock down. Your opponent must summon a monster big enough to take down Heraklinos or lose. Moreover, this deck is one of the most consistent deck due to it's toolbox play style and tag system. Fighting a Gladiator Beast is just like fighting the whole deck. Your opponent not just need to worry about your field, hand, but your deck as well. Even more to add, Gladiator Beast duelist seldom draw trash hand. None of your hand will be totally useles. No dead draw just make this deck better.

Futhurmore, the broken GB boss monster still exist. He is the best fusion ever created - Gladiator Beast Gyzarus. Gladiator Beast even try to build thier deck around him which maximising chance of Gyzarus spam. For instance, Prisma Gladiator Beast deck. Once he's out, you at least gain +1 card advantage. If he survive and attacked sucussfully, you creat even more advantage and finally contact into Heraklinos which lock down your opponent and your victory is almost ensured. Even with Bestiari at 1, it every easy to summon Gyzarus. Since there is proving ground, prisma and test tiger combo, spaming gyzarus is the way too consistant. All you need to care is D.D. Crow and Bottomless Trap Hole which can remove your Bestiari from play.
